Saint Mary School is home to a myriad of technology made available to teachers and students. Every single instructional area is wired to the Internet to allow for technology to be utilized in the classroom. Every classroom has a computer with web access as well as an LCD projection system to display information. Technology also includes other items such as Mimio pads which essentially transforms the computer screen into a smart board and allows those in the classroom to interact with the computer remotely without keeping the teacher at the desk!
SAINT MARY SCHOOL TECHNOLOGY CURRICULUM
Our technology curriculum models the International Society of Technology Education Standards... These are national standards which work to promote a good digital learner. The goal of the technology curriculum is to offer ideas, support, and training to enable and prepare our students, teachers, and staff for successful users of technology and thus successful learners.
All students will spend time in our technology facilities. Formal weekly classroom instruction consists of 20 minutes at our preschool level and 45 minutes for K-8 students. In addition to training systems and typing, students are exposed to and are able to discuss age appropriate topics of the social, economical, moral, and ethical aspects of technology in our global world.
GOOGLE APPS AT SAINT MARY
Saint Mary School launched Google Apps for faculty, staff, and students in 2010. This powerful collection of web-based applications will enable students and teachers to collaborate electronically. Students are able to work on assignments, collaborate with other students, and share work with students and teachers.
The best thing about Google Apps is how it allows us to utilize our infrastructure and resources better. Google provides and maintains the infrastructure. All information is stored online. This safe way of maintaining data ensures that students and teachers are able to access their data at anytime of the day or night. Google Apps has and will continue to revolutionize the way learning is done at Saint Mary.
And because we are a educational institution, Google Apps is absolutely free!
Please take some time to familiarize yourself with our Google Apps policies.
Saint Mary School is home to Mimio line of interactive products. These products allow our teachers and students to better interact with technology through the use of interactive white board systems, vote systems, document cameras, and wireless tablets. The technology also allows teachers to teach and assess student learning with ease. It also keeps students engaged as it opens the world to them through the use of the computer.
Saint Mary is proud to feature campus-wide wireless access for students, teachers, and guests. Our wireless network is used by our teachers, students, and staff to compliment their daily interactions with technology. Additional work to expand connectivity throughout the building is ongoing. For more information about our wireless network, click here.
All Saint Mary workstations are connected to our STMARYBG intranet. This also gives access to the Internet via a 100MB cable connection. All inbound and outbound traffic is monitored and filtered. Microsoft Windows 7 operating systems are featured on all workstations including Microsoft Office 2013 suite which includes Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The school will rollout to Windows 10 Education edition during the summer of 2017. Additionally, students and teachers also have access to software titles such as MovieMaker, KidPix, Inspiration, Kidspiration, SketchUp, Google Earth.
Saint Mary employs over 90 Chromebooks that are available students in classrooms. Chromebooks easily integrate with the exisiting Google Apps infrastructure the school uses. Chromebooks have added to our daily instruction in classrooms with students having instant access to the collaborative tools of Google Apps, but also online resources including several online curriculums within our math, social science, and health curriculum.
