Lenten Soup Lunch Day
Wednesday, April 13, 2011
Operation Rice Bowl, the official Lenten Program of Catholic Relief Services, began in 1975. The program originated as a means through which communities could join together and break bread, demonstrating that the nourishment we receive at the table of the Eucharist can be shared with all members of our human family through PRAYER, FASTING, LEARNING, GIVING, AND DEVELOPMENT.
Our Lenten Soup Lunch Day will benefit the 2011 Operation Rice Bowl, our Parish Lenten project, and will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2011. The Lenten Soup Lunch Day will consist of a bowl of soup and a package of crackers. This simple lunch will give the students an opportunity to experience how many children around the world, including the United States, live each day. For millions, a bowl of soup may be there only meal of the day.
Please encourage your child to participate in this activity by ordering a bowl of soup. Please help them to understand that they may feel a little hungry that one day, but millions of people are very hungry every day of their lives.
The suggested donation for the Soup Lunch is $2.50. Please complete the information below and return the form to your teacher in an envelope marked “LENTEN SOUP LUNCH – DIANNE GAVIN”. Please pay for the Soup Lunch separately from your regular hot lunch payment. Make checks payable to Saint Mary Operation Rice Bowl.
All soup orders must be returned by April 1, 2011.
Parents, if you are available to help during lunch on the Soup Lunch Day, please provide your information below.
Thank you for your participation in this very worthwhile event. If you have any questions regarding the Soup Lunch, please contact Dianne Gavin at 847-541-1450 ext 28.
